Bodø University College (BUC), Norway, in collaboration with University of Malawi, San Carlos University, Guatemala, University of KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa and University of Havana, Cuba hereby announce four PhD Scholarships for study in the area of Children, Gender and Welfare in Comparative Social Work.
21/02/2007 :: Successful candidates are expected to undertake comparative research across at least two of the participating network countries (Cuba, Guatemala, Malawi, Norway, South Africa and Russia) in one of the following areas:
- Children and youth in difficult circumstances,
- Women in difficult circumstances
A gender perspective must underscore the research. In undertaking the comparative research candidates will unravel how particular political, cultural and welfare systems impact the areas of investigation.
The academic training component requires the following doctorial courses:

Eligibility criteria:
- Masters qualification in Social Work or a related social science qualification, preferably in sociology, development studies or gender studies;
- A citizen or permanent resident in one of the participating countries (Cuba, Malawi, Gautamala and South Africa) currently living in their country of residence;
- Full-time availability for a period of three years to ensure timely completion of the PhD programme; Willingness and availability to travel to designated countries;
- Ability to speak, read and write English.

- A 4-5 page concept paper related to the broad topic of the research. The concept paper should elucidate how you would conceptualise and implement the research within the broad guidelines contained in the project proposal.
